Ricardo Renteria was born in Aurora, IL and lived there until the age of ten. His family then relocated to Chaparral, NM and this is where he considers home. Ricardo grew up with one brother and one sister and of course was always surrounded by animals. Growing up in the rural southwest the animals were indeed his best friends.
Ricardo grew up around horses, dogs, sheep, goats, ducks, chickens and many other farm animals. He spent most of his childhood hauling and competing at rodeos but always knew he wanted to compete in a venue that involved dogs and horses. He knew early on that he wanted to devote his life to helping animals so after graduating from Gadsden High School he attended New Mexico State University. He received his Bachelor’s degree in Animal Science and considered applying to vet school but instead focused on the management aspect in a clinical setting. His commitment to animals and their owners is the reason he enjoys every day at work. Making a difference in a positive way in someone’s life is what counts in this industry.
When not managing Zarges Animal Clinic, Ricardo enjoys his days off with his vizslas which he actively shows in conformation and field trial competitions. He also enjoys his time with his horses. He states, “Life is so much clearer and simpler on the back of a horse.” The trials and tribulations of working in this field can be hectic at times but fulfilling a personal niche of helping animals and their owners by being their voice or ambassador if you will is what keeps Ricardo motivated.
